What Makes Haight Elementary Special?

Henry Haight Elementary Event Calendar

Please join us in saying 'NO' to moving AOA's Elementary school to the Haight Campus

Attention Haight Families: Did you know Haight’s campus is being considered for providing classroom space and an office for the new Academy of Alameda Elementary School in 15/16?

We recently learned that the School Board was asked to find space on the West End of Alameda to provide for the newly approved AOA Elementary School (grades K and 1, with 4 classrooms and an office) for the 15/16 school year. Two options will go before the School Board this Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 6:30 at City Hall located at 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

One scenario would require Haight to lose our T1/ELD intervention room, our science lab, our room 12B sensory room, the office space for our School Psychologist, Speech Specialist and Counselor as well as our leveled book library — all in order to add 4 classrooms and an office for AOA. If approved, we would have a MOU with AOA for their shared use of our campus including our playground and cafeteria. We would have 2 elementary schools with 2 separate programs on one campus

The second option being considered is for AOA to expand at their current campus (formerly Chipman) which makes more sense and is less disruptive for all involved.

We must unite and express our concerns about this proposal to the School Board who will make the decision.

  • Click here for the District PowerPoint regarding this proposal.
  • Click here for the many reasons why teachers and families are united in saying 'No' to the proposal.

How You Can Help:

  • Please send emails or call Board Members to express your concerns.
  • Please sign the paper petition before or after school. OR Sign our ONLINE petition.
  • Please join us at the School Board Meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 6:30 at City Hall.
